A Simple Easter Tree
Welcome, March! As we move into this new month, my anticipation for springtime is growing exponentially with each day. On the cusp of closing the chapter of another winter - a very unique winter - I’m striving to dispel my Pennsylvanian cabin fever with some fresh touches of spring. As mother nature teases with a mild breeze and more sunlight, the sense of a new season is truly rejuvenating. After banishing the last bits of wintertime decor - a pinecone here and there, a few wooden snowflakes, a stray strand of sleigh bells - my first springtime task is, as always, putting together a simple tabletop Easter tree.
A few branchy bits from a curly willow in the front yard is my go-to, but any sampling of branching does the trick. Choose a vessel that is heavy enough to support a bit of imbalance, with a small mouth that will keep your branching clustered. My tried and true vase for this project is the Pepparkorn from Ikea (keep in mind this tree may be safest on the mantle or atop a cupboard if you have kiddos or kitties running around).
Tie in a few of your favorite ribbons, mixing and matching and in varying lengths. I’ve sourced the sweetest little baskets just right for hanging; they are lightweight and the perfect size to hold three or four hollowed quail eggs. They would also be sweet holding candies, moss, or a dyed egg from last Easter.
These few components are the perfect base for a traditional Easter tree. Embrace the simplicity, or layer in more goodies- an abandoned birds nest, a few sprigs of pussy willow, a vintage Easter postcard, paper flowers, anything that brings a smile and reminds you of that season of rebirth. Enjoy the tree all season long, especially on those days when a stray snowflake or two flutters by!
Sending happiest (early) springtime wishes to all!
